Terms and Conditions

1. Acceptance of terms

By purchasing, downloading, installing or using EmotionLock (the "App" or the "Service"), you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms") in their entirety. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must not use the product.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you (the end user, "you" or "User") and EmotionLock("we", "us" or "Company"), a registered trade name of BIB (sole proprietorship, KVK: 75526972), based in the Netherlands. This agreement is solely between you and EmotionLock, not with Apple Inc. Apple is not a party to these Terms and bears no responsibility for the App or its content.

Your continued use of the App constitutes ongoing acceptance of these Terms and any updates to them. The most current version of these Terms is always available at emotionlock.app/terms.

Important notice regarding MT5 credentials

By connecting your MetaTrader 5 account, you explicitly acknowledge that: (a) you are using your MT5 Investor Password and not your master password; (b) your credentials will be transmitted to and stored by MetaAPI, an independent third-party service outside EmotionLock's control; and (c) you accept all risks associated with this data transfer as described in Section 7 of these Terms.

2. Age requirement

You must be at least 18 years of age to use EmotionLock. By using the App, you confirm that you are 18 or older. Trading financial instruments carries substantial risk and is not suitable for minors.

3. License

Upon completing the required in-app purchases, we grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licenseto use the EmotionLock iOS application on Apple devices that you own or control, subject to these Terms and Apple's App Store Terms of Service.

  • This license is for personal, non-commercial use only.
  • You may not resell, redistribute or sublicense your access to any third party.
  • We reserve the right to revoke your license if you violate these Terms.

4. Payment, subscriptions and refunds

EmotionLock uses Apple In-App Purchase (StoreKit 2) as its exclusive payment processor. All billing is handled by Apple. EmotionLock does not process or store your payment card details.

MT5 License, 49.99 (one-time)

A non-consumable purchase that grants permanent access to the MT5 connection feature. This is a one-time charge and does not renew automatically.

Monthly Subscription, 9.99 per month (auto-renewable)

Grants ongoing access to the EmotionLock service. Your first one (1) month is included free of charge after purchasing the MT5 License. After the free period, the subscription automatically renews at 9.99 per month unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase and at the start of each renewal period.

To cancel: Open iOS Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, tap EmotionLock, then tap Cancel Subscription. Cancellation must be made at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period.

Refunds are subject to Apple's refund policy. EmotionLock does not issue independent refunds for in-app purchases, except where required by applicable consumer protection law in your country of residence. If you experience technical issues, contact us at support@emotionlock.app.

5. No financial advice

EmotionLock is a discipline and automation tool only. It does not provide financial advice, trading signals, investment recommendations or any form of regulated financial service.

All trading decisions are made solely by you. EmotionLock is not a licensed financial advisor, broker or investment firm. Setting a trade limit does not guarantee profitable trading outcomes.

Trading financial instruments involves significant risk of loss. Past performance is not indicative of future results. You are solely responsible for any trading losses you may incur, whether or not you were using EmotionLock at the time.

6. Service availability and limitation of liability

EmotionLock operates on a best-effort basis. The App relies on a live connection between your MT5 broker, MetaAPI's servers and our backend infrastructure. We cannot guarantee 100% uptime or that every trade will be detected in real time. You remain solely responsible for your own trading decisions at all times, regardless of the App's operational status.

EmotionLock is not liable for trading losses or any other damages resulting from:

  • Delayed or missed trade detection due to connectivity issues, polling intervals or API latency.
  • App blocking not activating because Screen Time permission has not been granted or was revoked.
  • The user choosing to use emergency override tokens to bypass a lock.
  • Any outage, degradation or failure of MetaAPI, Railway, Supabase, Apple or any other third-party infrastructure.
  • The App being inaccessible due to iOS updates, App Store removal or device-level restrictions.
  • Trading activity, profitable or otherwise, that occurs while a lock is active or while the App is unavailable.
  • Broker configuration that prevents read-only connections or limits data availability.

Broker compatibility: Not all MT5 brokers are supported. EmotionLock works with brokers whose servers are supported by MetaAPI. If your broker is not supported, the MT5 connection feature will not function.

Force majeure: EmotionLock is not liable for any failure or delay in performance resulting from causes beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to: cyberattacks on third-party infrastructure, acts of God, internet service disruptions, broker server outages, regulatory action, or failure of MetaAPI, Apple, Railway or Supabase systems.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, EmotionLock's total liability to you for any claim arising from or related to these Terms or your use of the App is strictly limited to the total amount you actually paid to EmotionLock in the 12 months preceding the claim, which in no event shall exceed EUR 53.98 (the combined maximum cost of one MT5 License and one month of subscription). We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages of any kind, including trading losses, loss of profits, loss of data or business interruption, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

7. MT5 connection and credential security

EmotionLock connects to your MetaTrader 5 account in read-only mode using your MT5 Investor Password. This read-only restriction is enforced at the MT5 protocol level, not by EmotionLock software alone. EmotionLock cannot and will not place, modify or close any trades on your behalf.

How your credentials are handled:

  • Your Investor Password is entered in the App and transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our backend.
  • Our backend immediately forwards the credential to MetaAPI and does not store the password in any database.
  • From that point forward, your Investor Password resides exclusively on MetaAPI's servers, which are SOC 2 Type II certified.
  • EmotionLock has no ongoing access to, copy of, or visibility into your Investor Password after the initial handoff.

Your responsibility: investor password vs. master password

EmotionLock is designed exclusively for use with your MT5 Investor Password (read-only access). Your master password grants full trading access to your account.

If you enter your master password instead of your Investor Password, you do so entirely at your own risk. EmotionLock cannot technically distinguish between the two password types. You bear full and sole responsibility for any trading activity, account access, financial loss or other consequence that results from entering the wrong credential type. EmotionLock expressly disclaims any and all liability in this scenario.

You are responsible for:

  • Verifying that you are entering your Investor Password (read-only), not your master password.
  • Entering your MT5 credentials correctly.
  • Keeping your credentials secure and not sharing them with unauthorized parties.
  • Ensuring your MT5 broker supports third-party read-only connections via MetaAPI.
  • Disconnecting your account via the App if you suspect any unauthorized access to your credentials.

MetaAPI as independent third party: The MT5 connection is facilitated through MetaAPI (metaapi.cloud), an independent third-party service provider. MetaAPI operates its own infrastructure, security measures and data retention policies. EmotionLock does not control MetaAPI's systems and cannot guarantee the security, availability or integrity of MetaAPI's services. By using the MT5 connection feature, you explicitly consent to your Investor Password being transmitted to and stored by MetaAPI, and you agree to MetaAPI's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

EmotionLock is not liable for any unauthorized access to, disclosure of, or misuse of your MT5 credentials that results from a breach of MetaAPI's systems, a breach of any other third-party infrastructure in the data chain, or any event outside EmotionLock's direct control.

8. Screen Time and app blocking

EmotionLock uses Apple's Family Controls / Screen Time API to block apps you have explicitly selected when your daily trade limit is reached. By enabling this feature, you:

  • Authorize EmotionLock to apply iOS system-level app restrictions on your device for the apps you select.
  • Understand that once locked, access to selected apps will be blocked until the next trading day (automatic midnight reset in your local timezone), unless an emergency token is used.
  • Acknowledge that this lock mechanism was configured by you and represents your own chosen trading discipline measure.
  • Acknowledge that bypassing or disabling this block by any technical means constitutes a violation of these Terms.

The app blocking feature operates on a best-effort basis and depends on iOS system permissions remaining active. EmotionLock is not responsible for any consequences, including missed trading opportunities or trades placed during a lock period, arising from the blocking feature failing to activate, deactivating unexpectedly, or being bypassed by any means.

Missed opportunities: EmotionLock is not liable for any financial loss, including lost profits from trades not taken, resulting from app blocking being active. The trade limit and locking mechanism are configured entirely by you and represent your own risk management choices.

9. Emergency override tokens

Users receive two (2) emergency override tokens per week, automatically reset every Sunday at 22:00 CET. An emergency token allows you to temporarily lift the app block when your daily trade limit has been reached. Each token is single-use. Unused tokens do not carry over to the following week.

Each use of an emergency token constitutes a conscious, deliberate and autonomous decision by you to override your self-imposed trading limit. The in-app confirmation prompt serves as explicit notice of this decision at the moment of use.

EmotionLock is not liable for any trading losses, financial damage or other consequences, direct or indirect, incurred after the use of an emergency token. By using an emergency token, you fully and irrevocably assume all risk for any trading activity that follows.

Additional emergency tokens may be available for purchase as a consumable in-app purchase. The same terms apply: use of any purchased token constitutes a conscious override decision for which EmotionLock bears no responsibility.

10. Assumption of trading risk

By using EmotionLock, you explicitly acknowledge and accept the following:

  • Trading financial instruments is inherently speculative and carries a high risk of capital loss. EmotionLock does not reduce, eliminate or hedge this risk in any way.
  • EmotionLock is a behavioral discipline tool. It is not a guarantee against trading losses, overtrading or any other trading outcome.
  • Technical failures of the App, including failure to detect trades, failure to lock, failure to connect to MetaAPI, or any other malfunction, do not transfer responsibility for trading decisions or losses from you to EmotionLock.
  • You are solely responsible for all trades you place, whether the App is functioning correctly or not, whether a lock is active or not, and whether you have used an emergency token or not.
  • EmotionLock does not monitor your trading in real time on a continuous basis. There is an inherent polling delay between a trade being placed at your broker and the App detecting it.
  • The effectiveness of EmotionLock depends on factors outside our control, including your broker's data feed, MetaAPI's availability and your device's internet connection.

You use EmotionLock entirely at your own risk. Nothing in these Terms or in the App constitutes a representation that EmotionLock will prevent trading losses or enforce any particular trading outcome.

11. Indemnification

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless EmotionLock, its owner, officers, employees and agents from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to:

  • Your use of or inability to use the App.
  • Your entry of incorrect credentials, including your MT5 master password instead of your Investor Password.
  • Your use of emergency override tokens and any trading activity following such use.
  • Your violation of these Terms or any applicable law or regulation.
  • Any claim by a third party (including your broker) arising from your use of EmotionLock.
  • Your circumvention or attempted circumvention of the app blocking functionality.

This indemnification obligation survives the termination of your use of EmotionLock and these Terms.

12. Security and third-party sub-processors

EmotionLock takes reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data within systems we directly control. However, the App relies on the following independent third-party sub-processors, each of which operates its own infrastructure:

  • MetaAPI: stores your MT5 Investor Password (SOC 2 Type II certified)
  • Supabase: stores non-sensitive usage data (SOC 2 Type II certified)
  • Railway: hosts our backend API (stateless, no credential storage)
  • Apple: processes payments and handles device-level Screen Time enforcement

EmotionLock is not liable for security breaches, data leaks or unauthorized access that occur at any of these sub-processors. Each sub-processor is an independent data controller or processor with its own security obligations. By using EmotionLock, you consent to your data being processed by these sub-processors as described in our Privacy Policy.

In the event of a security incident affecting EmotionLock's own systems, we will notify affected users within the timeframes required by applicable law (72 hours under GDPR where applicable).

If you become aware of a potential security vulnerability in EmotionLock, please report it responsibly to support@emotionlock.app before disclosing it publicly.

13. Special circumstances and prohibited uses

13.1 Trading addiction and psychological wellbeing

EmotionLock is a behavioral discipline tool only. It is not a medical device, psychological intervention, therapy, or treatment for any mental health condition, including trading addiction, gambling disorder or impulse control disorder. It is not a substitute for professional psychological or psychiatric help.

If you believe you may have a problem with trading addiction or compulsive behavior, we strongly encourage you to seek help from a qualified mental health professional. Resources are available through your national health service and organizations such as Gambling Therapy.

Emergency override tokens are provided solely for genuine exceptional circumstances. EmotionLock expressly disclaims all liability for any psychological harm, worsening of addictive behavior, mental health deterioration or emotional distress arising from use of the App or any of its features, including the emergency token mechanism.

13.2 Broker compatibility and third-party restrictions

Before connecting your MT5 account, you are solely responsible for verifying that your broker permits third-party read-only connectionsvia investor password through services such as MetaAPI. Broker terms of service vary widely and are outside EmotionLock's control.

EmotionLock is not liable for any account suspension, forced position closure, margin call, financial loss or any other consequence resulting from your broker determining that a third-party connection violates their terms of service. The risk of broker incompatibility or broker policy enforcement is borne entirely by you.

13.3 Death, incapacity and third-party claims

Your EmotionLock account and all rights under these Terms are strictly personal and non-transferable. Upon your death or legal incapacity, no rights, claims, benefits or obligations under these Terms transfer to your heirs, estate, legal representatives, guardians, curators or any other third party.

EmotionLock has no liability whatsoever to any third party, including heirs or estate administrators, arising from or related to trading losses, missed trading opportunities, account states or any other outcome connected to your use of the App, regardless of circumstances.

13.4 Professional use and third-party funds

EmotionLock is designed exclusively for personal retail trading accounts in which you trade solely your own funds. Use of EmotionLock with any account that manages, holds or trades third-party funds, client assets, investor capital or any form of fiduciary assets is expressly prohibited.

This prohibition includes but is not limited to: professional traders, asset managers, fund managers, proprietary trading firms, introducing brokers and any person subject to a fiduciary duty in relation to the connected account. EmotionLock is not liable for any loss, regulatory penalty, breach of fiduciary duty or claim arising from use of the App in a professional or fiduciary context.

13.5 Regulatory compliance in your jurisdiction

EmotionLock is a personal trading discipline tool. It does not constitute portfolio management, investment advice, automated investment management or any other regulated financial service under MiFID II, the Dutch Financial Supervision Act (Wet op het financieel toezicht), or any equivalent legislation in any jurisdiction.

You are solely responsible for ensuring that your use of EmotionLock complies with all applicable laws and regulations in your country of residence. If use of the App is prohibited, restricted or subject to licensing requirements in your jurisdiction, you must not use it.

In the event that a competent authority in any jurisdiction determines that EmotionLock requires a license or regulatory approval that we do not hold, EmotionLock's liability to affected users shall be strictly limited to a refund of subscription fees paid in the 12 months preceding that determination. No further damages, losses or claims shall be recoverable on this basis.

14. Maintenance, support and updates

We are solely responsible for all maintenance, technical support and updates for EmotionLock. Apple Inc. has no obligation whatsoever to provide any maintenance or support services for EmotionLock.

We aim to maintain compatibility with current versions of iOS and MetaTrader 5. We reserve the right to modify, update or discontinue features of EmotionLock at any time with reasonable notice. Updates are distributed through the Apple App Store.

14. Warranties

We are solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed under these Terms. Apple has no warranty obligation with respect to EmotionLock.

EmotionLock is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind beyond what is required by applicable law. We do not warrant that the App will be error-free, uninterrupted or continuously available at all times.

15. Intellectual property

All intellectual property rights in EmotionLock, including but not limited to the app, design, code, brand name, logo and content, belong exclusively to EmotionLock. In the event of a third-party intellectual property infringement claim relating to the App, we are solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim. Apple has no responsibility for such claims.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, reverse engineer, decompile or create derivative works of EmotionLock or any part thereof.

16. Prohibited use

You agree not to:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract the source code of EmotionLock.
  • Transfer or share your access to any other person.
  • Use EmotionLock for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
  • Attempt to circumvent, disable or bypass the app blocking functionality by any technical means.
  • Use EmotionLock to monitor or restrict another person's device without their knowledge and consent.
  • Attempt to access another user's data.
  • Enter credentials other than your own MT5 Investor Password into the App.

17. Legal compliance

By using EmotionLock, you confirm that you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. or EU government embargo, or that has been designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. or EU government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

18. Account deletion

You may request deletion of your EmotionLock data at any time by emailing support@emotionlock.appwith the subject "Account deletion request". Data deletion is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Deleting your data does not entitle you to a refund of any amounts paid. Your Apple subscription must be cancelled separately via iOS Settings.

20. Apple as third-party beneficiary

You acknowledge and agree that Apple Inc. and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

21. Governing law, disputes and individual resolution

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the use of EmotionLock shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in the Netherlands, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rights applicable in your country of residence.

Individual resolution: To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, any dispute, claim or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the use of EmotionLock must be resolved on an individual basis. You waive any right to bring or participate in any class action, collective action, consolidated action or representative proceeding against EmotionLock. Nothing in this clause limits rights you may have under mandatory consumer protection law in your country of residence.

Before initiating any formal legal proceedings, we encourage you to contact us at support@emotionlock.app so we can attempt to resolve the matter informally.

If you are an EU consumer, you also have the right to submit a complaint to your local consumer protection authority or use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform.

22. Changes to these terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via a notice in the App at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of EmotionLock after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

23. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision shall be limited to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
